And when will it be back?
Yes, I’m taking a short break from releasing episodes during February. The next episode of Weird in the Wade will be out on Monday 2nd March that’s in just 5 weeks time.
Have you considered supporting the show on Patreon?
If, however, you are a Patron on Weird in the Wade’s Patreon. It costs less than the price of coffee £3.50 to support the show monthly, you’ll get two bonus episodes one next week in January and one in February, plus all the back catalogue of bonus content on the Patreon. And of course, ongoing monthly bonus content. Here’s where to sign up if you’re interested: https://www.patreon.com/cw/WeirdintheWade
But why is Weird in the Wade on a break?
I know that it’s disappointed some of you and the podcast has even received a 2 star review with the headline “Takes more breaks than a kit-kat.”
I don’t want to make this about responding to a low star review, however tempting that is. But for some context:
I started Weird in the Wade in May 2023 and released episodes monthly (occasionally more frequently) for almost 2 and a half years without a break.
The BBC acquired Weird in the Wade in the summer of 2024 and my back catalogue of episodes were released weekly on the BBC. Episodes continued to be monthly everywhere else until the BBC caught up releasing my back catalogue. That’s when I took a short break during September 2025 returning at the end of October with fortnightly episodes.
Releasing episodes every two weeks means I’m doubling my output.
My husband and close friends all thought that was too much for me to take on.
Why do they think that?
Well, because it really is just me making the podcast. My friend Tess composes some music for me and recently has edited some audio. Otherwise, it’s just me researching, writing, presenting, editing and promoting the show.
I also work part time for Transport for London as a disability access advisor. I can’t afford to give up that job. I couldn’t afford to make the podcast if my husband didn’t have a good job that supports us both. I am incredibly fortunate.
I am committed to releasing episodes every two weeks but to do that it means the episodes need to come out in blocks of 7 or 6 at a time. If you want to think of it as like miniseries’ or seasons of weird in the wade. You get three of these mini seasons a year currently!
Now and during most of February I am working on future episodes so I’m not having the whole time as a break, just the show is.
What’s next?
The new episodes kick off in March with one for International Womens Day with Evelyn Hollow, Deborah Hyde, Bethan Briggs Miller and Steph Lay.
There’s a return to the Higgins museum in Bedford and exploration of a Victorian murder which has links with the US civil war and slavery.
There’s an episode featuring two listeners who both encountered strange road ghosts not far from Biggleswade.
We’ll be taking a trip to Tempsford and the ghosts of World War 2.
I’ll be spending the night in Biggleswade’s most haunted pub to see if I can capture any paranormal activity there.
There’ll be railway ghosts, Bedfordshire’s ruined castles, Tudor Biggleswade and a trip to Cornwall to visit my childhood haunts in both meanings of the word.
I’m sure the short wait will be worth it and I’ll be sharing on the blog suggestions for other listening and viewing and reading whilst the show is on hiatus.

Nat,
Please keep up the good work it will be worth the wait I am sure 😁.
Best wishes Glen

Enjoy your break and I look forward to hearing future editions. I’ve a lot to catch up on BBC Sounds in the meantime as time allows. The show is a great resource as I’m currently writing a book set in Bedford (a Horror Story) and I used to live in Bedfordshire many years ago. Looking forward to hearing the Evelyn Hollow episode coming up too 🙂
