Happy International Women’s Day!

For International Women’s Day I released a very special episode of Weird in the Wade celebrating Paranormal Women which you can listen to here on the BBC, or here on Apple or here on Spotify. It’s available pretty much everywhere you get your podcasts!

My guests were all women uniquely placed to talk about the paranormal:

Evelyn Hollow, parapsychologist, author and queen of team believer on Uncanny

Deborah Hyde, psychologist, folklorist, and queen of team sceptic on Uncanny

Bethan Briggs-Miller, podcaster (Eerie Essex) and co-founder of the East Anglian Folklore Centre

Steph Lay, Creator of City Secrets podcast and member of team Into The Fog

Check out my previous blog entry to find out more about that episode and the wonderful women featured on it and more recommendations for paranormal women!

Spotlight on Women who Create and have helped me to make weird in the wade!

Tess and me at the Independent Podcast Awards in October last year.

This week on social media I’ve been spotlighting different women who in different ways create or have helped me to create weird in the Wade.

My first choice was the fabulous Amy Boucher, friend of the show, who is one half of the Shropshire Witchcraft Podcast and keeper of the fantastic blog: https://nearlyknowledgeablehistory.blogspot.com/

Day 2 was the fabulous Emma Swailes who is the creative force behind the Bell Witch Podcast and so many other witchy and wonderful endeavours! Find out more here: https://63f6384381efc.site123.me/

Day 3 was my bestie Tess who creates wonderful music including the theme to Weird in the Wade and some of the more bespoke themes within episodes, like the creepy doll theme in the Higgins episode. Tess has an album available, Aurora on Band Camp.

Day 4 was a shout out the fantastic Write Like A Grrrl courses and Kerry the founder! I couldn’t have made the podcast with out the writing support and inspiration from the wonderful grrrls!

Day 5 I made a playlist of paranormal themed songs by women whose music I love: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4OkzXKeIq3M096uI7llsLR?si=LtbHgaCLTeqf1nOTBmTVYg

Day 6 I celebrated my Mum who encouraged and nurtured my love of story telling, books, theatre, music and much much more. Thank you Mum!

Mum and me at Trentham Gardens in Stoke for the literary festival.

Day 7 And for today actual International Women’s Day I want to celebrate and say a huge thank you to you! To all the women who listen to the podcast and read this blog. Women make up the majority of my listeners around 2/3 which I find really interesting. In fact women tend to consume more podcasts than men, yet the podcasting industry is very much dominated by men. This fascinating report illustrates the gender imbalance in popular podcasting.

I’m happy if I can do my bit by being a woman podcasting and championing the women in the paranormal, folklore and podcasting field!
